Background
Dr. John W. Moore is President and Senior Associate of Penson Associates, Inc. and is President Emeritus and Distinguished Trustee Professor of Indiana State University. He served formerly as President of Indiana State University, the ISU Foundation, and as President of California State University, Stanislaus. Dr. Moore previously served in senior level positions at Old Dominion University, as Executive Vice President and the University of Vermont, as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Moore has been an active faculty member at the University of Vermont, Old Dominion University, CSU Stanislaus, and Indiana State University.
Dr. Moore is a former Coordinator of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities New Presidents Academy. He has had significant leadership roles in the Society for College and University Planning (past national president), the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Council on Education, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Dr. Moore was appointed by the Governor to the Indiana Education Roundtable, the Indiana Economic Development Commission and the Board of Directors of the Indiana Business Modernization and Technology Corporation. Dr. Moore has served as Chair of the Indiana Conference on Higher Education, the Board of Directors of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System, and the Indiana Council for Quality Teaching for Student Learning. A recipient of numerous citations and honorary degrees, Dr. Moore was named a “Sagamore of the Wabash”, the most prestigious award given to a citizen of Indiana. Dr. Moore was inducted into the Pennsylvania State University’s Society of Distinguished Alumni in 2001.
He has an extensive national client base and consults in the areas of: leadership education, governing board development and assessment, presidential performance appraisal and development, executive transition management, team development, strategic planning and organizational alignment. Dr. Moore is the author of “Presidential Succession and Transitions: Beginning, Ending, and Beginning Again” and recently co-authored “Servant Leadership and the Art of Teaching” among many other publications related to his consulting practice.
Dr. Moore earned a B.S. from Rutgers University, an M.S. from Indiana University, and an ED.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
