Background
Dr. David E. McFarland is Chief Executive Officer and Senior Associate of Penson Associates, Inc. and is President Emeritus of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. He served as President of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania for fourteen years. Dr. McFarland also served in senior level positions at the University of Central Missouri, as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, at Pittsburg State University, as Dean and Professor of Engineering Technology, and at Wichita State University, as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dean of University College, Continuing Education and Student Development. Dr. McFarland has been an active faculty member at Wichita State University, Pittsburg State University and The University of Kansas.
Dr. McFarland currently is a regular speaker and workshop facilitator at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities conferences for chief academic officers. He has co-chaired two White House Conferences on Teacher Education, served on the faculty for the Experienced President’s Academy and assumed other significant roles for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. He has served on numerous accreditation teams for the North Central Association, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Middle States Association, including times of chairing the teams. He was the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He was also the recipient of the Caron Foundation award for the National Educator of the Year. The Caron Foundation is a nationally recognized center for research and treatment of alcohol and other drug issues.
He has an extensive national client base and consults in the areas of: leadership development, governing board development and assessment, presidential performance appraisal and development, executive transition management, team development, strategic planning, organizational alignment and conflict resolution.
Dr. McFarland earned a B.S. and M.S. from Wichita State University and a Ph.D. from The University of Kansas.
