Background
Dr. Patricia P. Cormier has served as President of Longwood University since 1996. Before assuming the leadership of Longwood University, Dr. Cormier served three years as the Chief Academic Officer at Winthrop University. Previously, she spent 12 years at the University of Pennsylvania where she concluded her tenure as an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. She also served as Vice President and Dean at Wilson College and Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Her honors include selection as one of 30 fellows nationwide to participate in the American Council on Education's fellowship program in academic administration, a master's degree Honoris Causa from the University of Pennsylvania, honorary degrees from Southside Virginia Community College and Fontbonne University, election to three national honor societies and selection as a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Dr. Cormier has had a notable career in fundraising, securing over $200 million in gifts and grants. She has extensive experience in developing governing and foundation boards, serving as a Commissioner for the Southern Association of College and Schools and as a member of the boards of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the American Council on Education, the Renaissance Group, The Virginia Chamber of Commerce and LEADERSHIP Virginia. She has consulted for all types of institutions including medical schools, private colleges and state universities.
Her consulting expertise includes fund raising, alumni relations, public relations, marketing, enrollment management, leadership development, board/president relationships and the development of public/private partnerships.
Dr. Cormier has master's and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Virginia, a B.S. degree from Boston University and a M.Ed. & Ed.D. from the University of Virginia.
